Desert Island Golf and Country Club reflects a well-balanced membership amongst it's members in terms of equity and non-equity members, golf and social participants, couples and men/women single golfers, primary residency locations for its members, age and members tenure.
The Club is governed and managed by the equity members. The non-equity members (social and introductory golf members) contribute incremental revenue to the Club while having more limited use of the facilities. 80% of the members are golfers but the overall benefits offered by the Club encourage non-golfers to participate and enjoy the various social amenities. Golfing couples, single men and women golfers as well as introductory golf members each have a substantial contingent. Learn More About Membership Opportunities.
The November 15, 2015 Club member handicaps reflect all skill levels for the 250 DIGCC golfers (102 women and 148 men). Various age groups are all well represented from those under 60 to those still interested in golf beyond 80. A Desert Island Golf & Country Club membership provides long-term value since the large variety of available rated tees and unique course layout enables both low and higher handicapped golfers to continuously enjoy the course and, if interested, continue to compete in tournaments even as their proficiency changes over time.
Approximately 50% of the Club associates have enjoyed the golf course and/or social activities for over 5 years. Of this group, 17% have been members for over 20 years. The long term commitment by such a large portion of the membership continues to provide a solid foundation from which to further develop the Club's membership profile. The proactive efforts of both the Club equity members and management over the years have allowed the Club to make appropriate changes and financial investments. The remaining 51% of members who have joined the Club within the last 5 years further validates the success of these past efforts. Time and money has been appropriately and prudently reinvested to assure the continued long term success of the Club.
Desert Island Golf & Country Club is a combination of world class golf and tennis facilities, and other social amenities. The Club provides an overall quality of life and value that appeal to a majority of the members whose primary residences are not in the Palm Springs region. Easy access and reasonable travel cost to the Palm Springs region enables Desert Island golf members to travel to/from their primary residences throughout much of the United States and Canada. For a large number of members, DIGCC is a second golf club membership in addition to a membership at their primary residential area. The following provides a percentage overview of the geographic diversity summarized in Chart 4 for the primary residence of the 251 Club members.
- 34% in California of which over 75% live year round in the Palm Springs region
- 30% in Washington/Oregon
- 9% in 11 other US states west of the Mississippi River (Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Minnesota & Iowa)
- 6% in 9 other US states east of the Mississippi River (Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Florida, Connecticut)
- 20% in 4 Canadian provinces (British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario)
During the 2015/2016 season, 81 DIGCC social and golf members reside in the Desert Island high rise residential units. These members provide a core support group of both the overall DIGCC membership (32%) as well as the Desert Island community residents (39%).
